BALMY BEACH OLD BOYS 2013 EUROPEAN TOUR
“SEMI-FINAL” ITINERARY, JAN. 20th
Following is an updated Itinerary, which is referred to as “Semi-final”, only because of possible last minute changes which, incidentally, we do not anticipate. Hopefully everyone, including Norton, will read and keep a copy of this, as no doubt, some questions will arise at our planned get together at the BBC on Sunday February 24th at 1:30pm.
We have assembled a stellar team of 14 skaters, (2 rookies, Dano and Dylan) and of course our unflappable goaler, O’Rhorer!
Wednesday March 6th. Meet at BBC in afternoon, Time TBD, for those wishing to
Transfer by bus to the airport, for the evening Flight, Air Canada #878, 8:30 pm, direct to Zurich. (German part of Switzerland, for those who failed high school Geography!)
Thursday March 7th. Arrival at 10:25 am, and transfer 5 minutes to hotel. Free afternoon to explore Kloten and / or Zurich. Game #1, 9:00pm to 11:00 pm, versus the Zurich Dental Flyers. Party following, please not before! This has the potential to be a “long” day, but we have done this before and enjoyed it.
Friday March 8th and Saturday March 9th. Zurich. These days are officially free, but some may want to shop etc., in Zurich or visit another part of Switzerland via the world’s most efficient Rail System, which is literally at our doorstep. We have been sent current Train Schedules from Zurich, and we will have copies of these at the meeting in February. Is this a good time for the Rookie Party???
Sunday March 10th. 8:00 am Bus transfer to Villars ( French part, in the Alps),
241 Kilometers ( 150 miles for those who struggled in Math or who are over 63!).
Game #2, 6:30 to 8:30 pm, versus the Villars Veterans at the Patinoire Villars.
Dinner and party following at our Hotel.
Monday March 11th. Free day in Villars, where ski opportunities are exceptional right in town! Suggested activity by Barb and Kent Ruhnke, our friends in Villars,is to spend a few hours at the Lavey la Bain, an absolutely beautiful outdoor steam spa at the base of the mountain. Men, bring Bathing Suits, Ladies, your “Thongs” will do! Not to be confused with Ronnie’s Hot Tub! Dinner at Hotel. Better time for the Rookie Party???
Tuesday March 12th. 8:00 am Bus transfer to Locarno/Ascona.(Italian part of Switzerland), 281 km., on Lake Maggiore. Afternoon walking tour of Ascona, followed by evening Game #3 versus Ascona team #1, time TBD. Dinner following.
Wednesday March 13th. Day bus tour arranged by Fabio Ferraro, our local host, of the scenic area. Includes a Cable Car lift to Cardada-Cimetta, and a lunch at the top of the mountain. Return to Locarno and Hotel in afternoon. Game #4 versus Ascona team #2, time TDB.Optional dinner following.
Thursday March 14th. 8:00 am Bus transfer to Klobenstein (Alps region of Sudtirol in Italy, Oberbozen), 405 km., via the National Park of Eastern Switzerland. This could be a “Fireout” day at the back of the bus with a toast or two to “MeBoys” courtesy of Murray and Janice. Afternoon welcome at our “home away from home”, the Schoenblick, and our hosts, Karin and Tull. Evening dinner for all.
Friday March 15th. Free Day. Recommended Cable Car into Bolzano. (Yes it is open this year) for shopping or experiencing the local Cafes. Games in evening as the Remo Cup begins. Times TBD. The Restaurant at the rink in Ritten is outstanding.
Saturday March 16th. Games in the morning to conclude the Remo Cup.
Fianl Banana Skin Dinner at the Schoenblick in the evening. Defending Recipient, Jeff Tomlinson, will not be available, but he is approachable for advice. Finalists from last year include Forbesie, Norris, as always, Paul The White, and Juice.
Midnight Curfew for those going to Munich in the morning!!!
Sunday March 17th. 5:00 am Bus transfer to Munich for those unfortunate souls returning to Toronto, via Air Canada, #847 at 11:50 am, arriving at 3:55 pm. Now the real party begins!
7:00 am Bus transfer, 604 km., to Nice and connecting flight to Ajaccio, Corsica, Flight XK #103, at 5:30 pm, arriving at 6:20 pm. Dinner at Hotel upon arrival for those who survive the day long St. Patrick’s Day Parade through Italy and France. Wear Green!
Monday March 18th to Thursday March 21st. Enjoy the ancient seaside town of Ajaccio and explore the rugged, scenic landscape of the Isle of Corsica and birthplace of Napoleon. (… the real one, not Eddy)
Thursday March 21st. Flight #7569, departing Ajaccio at 2:00 pm, arriving Paris, Orly, at 3:35 pm. Transfer to Hotel. Our illustrious Bilingual Parisien Tour Guide will likely be there to greet us with a fine “Bordeaux” or deux!
Friday March 22nd-Saturday March 23rd. Explore Paris on your own.Or, Heidi has agreed to coordinate a Walking Tour of the major tourist and historical sites, for those who are able to keep up. Good chance to sample the local Cuisine.
Sunday March 24th. Transfer to Paris, Charles de Gaulle , Flight # 881
Air Canada, departing at 11:30 am, to Toronto, arrival at 2:55 pm.
